Bangladesh tour will help revive cricket: PCB chief

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Zaka Ashraf Wednesday said Bangladesh’s short tour will help revive the suspended sport in his country.

Bangladesh on Sunday confirmed it will play a one-day and a Twenty20 match in Lahore this month, matches which will reintroduce international cricket to Pakistan following its suspension in the wake of 2009 attacks on the Sri Lankan team bus.

Karzai wants ‘at least $2 billion’ a year from US

KABUL: Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Tuesday said he wanted “at least $2 billion” a year from the United States after it withdraws its troops in 2014.

Karzai said the US should specify in a partnership agreement to be signed between his country and the US how much money it will give to Afghanistan after they leave.

Ahmadinejad vows to defend territorial integrity

TEHRAN,: Iran will respond with force to any threats to its territorial integrity, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Tuesday, adding that it would prefer to cooperate with its Arab neighbours to maintain security in the Gulf.

“The armed forces and the army will inflict heavy regret and shame in case of any aggression against Iranian lands and interests,” Ahmadinejad told military commanders and personnel on the occasion of Iran’s annual Army Day.

Clinton urges NKorea not to launch rocket

WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday urged nuclear-armed North Korea not to go ahead with its planned rocket launch if it wants a “peaceful, better future” for its people.

“We are consulting closely in capitals and at the United Nations in New York and we will be pursuing appropriate action,” Clinton said at a press conference with Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba, who echoed her remarks.

Rescue work continues at Siachen

RAWALPINDI: Expert teams from Germany and Switzerland have arrived in Pakistan to take part in the rescue operation at Siachen Glacier where 139 troops and civilians were buried on Saturday by a massive avalanche that engulfed a military complex in Gayari sector.

Six German and three Swiss experts are embraced with equipments who are also waiting for weather clearance to proceed to Gayari.
